Deforestation a Worldwide Devil: Hajira Rafique
The word deforestation is deliberated an act of clearing trees from an area for distinctive intensions. Such activities are committed in greed cash opportunities while a land cannot supply when it is covered by trees. Nonetheless, more than 25% of Earth is covered by forests and half of the world’s forests are found in just seven countries named Brazil, Russia, Indonesia, Canada, United States, China and Democratic Republic of Cango. According to estimation of United Nations since 2010 around 18,000,000 acers of forests are vanished every year, and Afghanistan has already lost 70% other forest because of such activities. Since, it has become a world-wide issue which requires to be ceased if it continues in the same condition then all trees get disappear and none of the individual would be eligible to withstand on the planet earth anymore in absence of trees. Thus, it is already estimated that Amazon Rainforest which located in Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, and the three Guyanas will entirely terminate by 2060 if rate of deforestation is not stepdown.
Additionally, it has several effects of environment in shape of emission of carbon dioxide. According to US environmental protective Agency 17% of carbon dioxide is released in atmosphere because of deforestation. However, CO2 is a natural greenhouse gas and other entails water vapour, methane and nitrous oxide which assist in making Earth’s surface warm by absorption of sunlight. Withal CO2 is inhaled by plants for photosynthesis by a process called sequestration so as to prepare sugarmalecule by releasing O2 (oxygen) in the process of respiration for proper functioning of animals. But due to shortage of trees the amount of CO2 enriches in atmosphere and more heat is trapped by greenhouse gases which consequences in rising of sea levels, Ocean acidification and melting ice caps which leads in flooding. Secondly, deforestation is a predominant factor of global climate change and directly proportional to pollution. Due to fewer trees in the environmental organisms have across numerous challenges like pollution which has so much harm that approximately 200,000 people each year die according to estimation of United States. Thirdly, according to WORLD WIDE FUND half of the topsoil of earth has eroded within past 150 years due to deforestation. Because in presence of trees, roots hold the soil and vegetation breaks the extreme force of falling rainwater by absorbing it. Soil erosion is also reasoned to be destruction of marine life because in absence of trees rainwater directly reaches to the ocean, seas which are acidic because of pollution. Next it is the utmost reason behind annihilation of habitat. In fact 80% of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests including species like mammals, birds, insects, amphibians, plants and other fragile species. It is measured to be their homeland, where they discover their nutrients, shelter, nesting sites as well as interbreed. But human activities are putting their habitat and ecosystem in danger.
One can find several reasons deforestation such as agriculture is one of them that causes 80% of deforestation according to FAO (Food and Agriculture organization). And 40% of forests are losing because of commercial or industrial agriculture and most importantly livestock is responsible for 14% of global deforestation. On the other hand, 15% deforestation is caused due to construction and 10% because of infrastructure. In the same fashion, Urbanization is considered the main reason which causes 5% according to FAO. It has been estimated that 68% of the world’s population is expected to live in cities by 2050. So people require cutting off the trees for constructing houses for living. This is one of the major motives behind deforestation.
According to OECD, the estimated population of 2050 will continue to reach over 9 billion people. When population increases their demand for food and natural resources also rises which leads for making artificial food. According to statics published by WORLDBANK 1.3 million square kilometers which is equal to 502,000 square mile forest has gone in duration of 1990 and 2016. In the same manner, study published by journal states that 46% since human initiated cutting primary forests. Therefore, in order to preserve earth to make it an accurate place for living human along with the communities working for protection of nature ought to have to find some sort of solutions for zero deforestation, such as, doing Reforestation or replanting of trees, Green business; by recycling materials leads in reduce in artificial items, such as paper, wood products and lots more.
